You can use “take it lightly” when you’re talking about something that you don’t take seriously. For example, if you play sports, but you don’t really care if you win or lose, you take sports lightly. Or, if you decide not to study for your math test, you’re taking your test lightly.
The most common way to use “take it lightly” is as a negative statement. For example, people will often say that they “don’t take (something) lightly.” However, they will rarely say, “I take (something) lightly.”
